Inspiration North West Welcomes Social Media
28 November 2011
Inspiration North West, part of NHS North West is joining the many other organisations embracing the world of Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
The Service Experience team now has a Facebook page (NHS Inspirationnw), and a Twitter account (@nhs_inspiration) and plans to expand how it is using these channels to share information and collect feedback from anyone interested in the work we are doing.
Nina Buckley – Programme Manager – Communications says “It is essential to be accessible online these days and our current website provides comprehensive information about the work we are doing and the projects involved with. However, we want to interact more with people and one of the best ways to reach people directly is through social media. Social media is also a way of reaching a different group of people that would not normally want to speak up publicly about services, but are happy to send a message."
Inspiration North West will be regularly tweeting and updating Facebook and welcome anyone to join in and share their patient experience, making Inspiration North West aware of what good care means to them.
Mandy Wearne, Director of Service Experience said:
"I am delighted that we are now online as it allows us to communicate to a much wider audience than would normally be possible. I hope people will interact with us online - we would love to hear from you!"
Social networking has become something of a modern phenomenon, with the statistics speaking for themselves.
- Facebook has more than 750 million active users, with 50% of active users logging on to Facebook on any given day.
- Twitter has over 200 million registered users, with 200 million tweets going out each day.
- During 2010 48 hours of video was uploaded onto YouTube every minute, resulting in nearly 8 years of content uploaded every day. Over 3 billion videos are viewed a day.
Furthermore, social networks are becoming more integrated, with nearly 17 million people having connected their YouTube account to at least one social service. 150 years of YouTube video are watched everyday on Facebook, and every minute more than 500 tweets contain YouTube links.
Inspiration North West will still make sure they connect with people in more traditional methods, through leaflets, posters and their website, but it is important not to be left behind with such popular communication tools
